The two piece suit

Description

Ever wondered why a suit is called a suit? The word suit derives from the French suite, meaning “following”. That refers to the fabric of the pants being made from the identical fabric as the jacket.

Although the Singapore weather is not particularly suited (pun intended) for wearing suits, there are certainly multiple occasions that call for it. Weddings, formal business settings, official ceremonies, concerts, interviews and the list goes on.

The usual adage is to err on the side caution, by this I mean that it is much better to be over dressed than it is to be underdressed. Let’s say that you are at an occasion where you are wearing a suit when everyone else is wearing just a shirt and tie. You basically have two options of either leaving your jacket on and look outstanding or take your jacket off and fit in with the crowd. However, if you did not bring your jacket and walked into a room full of people in suits, you will stand out but for a different reason! What’s more, you do not have the option of putting on your jacket since you didn’t bing it in the first place!

A suit should be a thing of beauty and really should be well cut and well made. The thing is, a well crafted suit cannot be bought from a vending machine and needs and needs time and craftsmanship to construct. Having a tailored suit shows a certain amount of forward planning and care given to dressing appropriately for the moment. After all a suit is a set of jacket and pants made from identical fabric, which shows intentional choice. It is almost near impossible to buy a jacket made from an identically matching fabric to your pants. Especially if you bought your pants off the rack, during some random shopping trip, months ago!

Although cliche, dressing well or appropriately shows respect for yourself, others and the occasion. It is a form of polite effort and consideration. Thus a well made suit requires some preparation and planning well before the time that it is needed.

Back to the two pice suit. While it is the “meat” of the look for gentlemen, the suit forms the armour of shell of the silhouette and should (almost invariably) be worn with the appropriate shirt / shoes and accessories (belt, watch, shoes an even lapel pins and pocket squares, but that’s another article).

Artorial of course treats the classic two piece suit as a mainstay of our product range and we have a wide selection of fabric to choose from. we would be more than happy to guide you through the selection of your next wardrobe addition.
